Philibert de Savoie

Like Marguerite d’Autriche, her husband Philibert de Savoie, who died at the age of 24 in 1504, is also buried in the cathedral of the Royal Abbey in Brou. His tomb, like his wife’s, has also two effigies, one formal and one informal, one above the other. The effigies are surrounded by putti (angels) and sibyls.
Every time I visit the cathedral with the tombs, my gaze is drawn to the figure above on Philibert’s tomb. Her posture and facial expression appeal to me. As do, albeit in a different way, the veined feet of Philibert and his wife Marguerite.
