Kochi and the Biennale

Kochi is surrounded by the sea. It still exudes the atmosphere of the colonial spice trade, even though that trade is now in Indian hands. Many warehouses are still in use, but a number have been repurposed or stand empty. For the past 14 years, some of the refurbished warehouses and heritage buildings have been used as exhibition spaces for the Kochi-Muziris Biennale of contemporary art.
The half-sunken boat was not part of the recently concluded biennial, even though the organisers have to fight time and again just to keep their heads above water. The photo below, however, is of a work that was on display there – and what a piece it was!
