Encountering a scene of such natural beauty, a painter may feel the urgency to search for his brushes, a poet to weigh the words that come to his mind, while I ….. I take the picture that you are now looking at.

We are in Arashiyama, the neighbourhood on the western outskirts of Kyoto with its beautifully wooded hills, its bamboo groves and age old temples.

We can be quite sure that not just the elegant roof, but to a great extent also the combination of trees has been composed by human hands. We look here at a work of art in which the aesthetic sense of the Japanese mind and the abundance of nature are happily going together.
