Kerala revisited

When I think of Kerala, images from the early years of my life as a filmmaker-anthropologist come to mind. In the 1970s and early 1980s, my connection with India centred on Kerala. Spread over numerous visits, I spent at least a year there, if not longer. And although I have been back to Kerala briefly on a few occasions since then, my visit in 2014 felt as though I were revisiting a part of my own past.

Wandering around familiar places; meeting old friends who, like me, have now long since passed retirement age; noticing the changes and the things that have remained the same in the appearance of towns, villages and landscapes; weaving new impressions and memories from the past into a series of layered images in my mind.
Kerala, My Own Country.
