After having been exposed to a multitude of diverse works of modern art, as I was during my visit to the 2016 Kochi-Muziris Biennale, you need time to digest. Art makes you think.
I have said that the beauty of a work of art may not be all-important for its appreciation and for the impression it leaves behind, but still … When you find a work beautiful, when it appeals to you aesthetically, it gets a special place in your heart and memory. You think of it with warmth. You feel enriched by it. A beautiful art work is one up on a work of which style and execution cannot enchant you. In spite of its possibly original idea, such a work may soon be forgotten. This is the fate of many conceptual art works. Beauty helps, in life and in art.
