In 2011 we were building our house on a mountain slope in Kumaon, in the Indian Himalayas. From the place where I was staying to the construction site I would always walk through this open forest. I still pass through it regularly and still like it. It must be the gentle slope of the land and the generous space between the trees, giving enough opportunity for the light to enter and spread. During and after the monsoon the forest floor is green and one can see cows and goats grazing sometimes. On the photo it is yellow; it was April, before the rains. Four village women are carrying stones on their heads.
