In last week’s post I touched upon the innovative art of Mondrian, De Stijl and Bauhaus in the first half of last century and I mentioned their impact on abstract art and modern design.
At a friend’s house in Geneva I once saw the coffee table of the picture. Impressed by its clever design, with the wonderful combination of ingenuity and simplicity, I asked her who had made it. She didn’t know. She had found it at the flee market, had liked it and bought it. She thought it would look nice on her carpet.

Looking again at the pictures I can’t stop marveling about the beauty of the design. Of one thing we can be pretty sure, without Mondrian-De Stijl-Bauhaus this lovely little table would not have been there.
