In 1995, Bombay became Mumbai. A year later, VT (Victoria Terminus) became CST (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus), and in 2017 the ‘M’ for Maharaj was added: CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus). All this was done to erase the names from the colonial era from our memory.
This old photograph has attempted to adapt and erase the colonial architectural monument once and for all. In vain, for people of my generation. VT remains indelibly etched in our memories. And the building still stands there in all its splendour. In Bombay.
