With frame and without

The wooden frame was probably placed there to draw visitors’ gaze towards the beautiful view of Château-Chalon. But the frame reduces the view of the small hilltop town to little more than a postcard. It creates a distance between the viewer and the landscape.

In contrast, the unframed image draws the viewer into the landscape. It invites you to wander through the gardens and fields. You notice all sorts of details. You sense the distance between the town and the surrounding hills. It gives you the feeling that you are right in the middle of the landscape.

With and without a frame: a strikingly different impression.
