Still

Anja Ibsch had her own space at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale for her installation Still, where she was free to work with her own belongings, memories, and phantoms, as well as with objects she discovered in Kochi. During the biennial, visitors could find her there, working on new ideas and making changes in various spots. Her workspace was constantly changing throughout the exhibition. On the day I walked in, I encountered, among other things, these three naked dolls lying half-asleep, or rather a tripled image of a reclining nude. The whole thing was enclosed between glass plates. Next to it, she had placed a bell, perhaps to awaken the women from their slumber at some point.
Ibsch made extensive use of glass in her installation, creating alienating effects, layers, and reflections. I really liked the playfulness with which she combined such diverse objects in her installation.
